7 Common Car Problems

If you own a car, you’re bound to have car problems eventually. It’s the nature of the beast; they simply cannot be avoided no matter how hard you try. While there are certainly steps you can take to minimise problems and the impact they have, such as listening for worrying noises and acting early, or getting a car service in Sydney , Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and surrounding areas as regularly as you can, in the end everyone will fall victim. In this article we’ll look at 7 of the most common car problems that most drivers will eventually experience.

Flat tyre

If you run over a sharp object such as glass or a jagged rock, there’s a chance that your tyre will puncture. Always ensure you carry a spare tyre and jack in the boot of your car.

Dead battery

If you leave the radio playing or your headlights on while the car is not running, this will drain the battery. When you go back to the car, you’ll find that it won’t start. Always carry jumper leads in case this happens to you and, more importantly, remember to turn your headlights off!

Ignition problems

If your car won’t start, before you panic, check two things — firstly, that the battery isn’t dead (try turning your lights on) and, secondly, that the car is not already in gear. In both of these situations, the car will not start. If those things are all clear, then you’ll need to have it looked at by a mechanic.

Leaks

A car requires lubrication to run smoothly so that parts don’t get damaged or ruined. If there is an oil, coolant or fuel leak, you’ll lose this lubrication and trouble will arise quickly. You’ll know your car’s leaking if you leave a puddle underneath where you’ve parked or perhaps if you notice someone waving frantically at you from the next lane over while you’re driving. Fix immediately.

Cracked windscreen

If anything solid smacks into your windscreen while you’re driving (or indeed, while the car is parked), there’s a good chance you’ll get a windscreen crack. These often start small, but even small cracks should be fixed immediately, as they’ll get worse over time until the entire windscreen needs replacing.

Brakes failing

If you notice that your brakes aren’t stopping the car as quickly as they used to, or if there’s a grinding or squeaking noise when you brake, it could mean your brakes are failing. We don’t have to tell you how dangerous this can be, as brakes are often all that stands between you and a high-speed accident. Take the car to a mechanic immediately or, if you’re afraid to drive it, contact a mobile mechanic for a car service in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide or surrounding areas.

Smoke coming from bonnet

If the smoke is white, it could mean there is a leaking head gasket or cracked cylinder head. If the smoke is black, there is probably too much fuel going into the engine. If it’s blue, the engine is burning oil. Either way, stop immediately and contact a mobile mechanic.
